more art and identity pictures

We posed Laila and Aveeka in a bus stop booth to imitate the classic image of people waiting for a bus, sitting in very close proximity to one another, but paying absolutely no attention to each other. In fact, if we were to zoom in you could see that Laila's phone was upside down and Aveeka is reading a blank piece of paper. This shows that they are creating fake distractions to avoid talking to one another at all costs. Do people at bus stops intentionally TRY not to talk to each other or are we simply too immersed in our own world to notice others?
This is a picture of Laila Aveeka and Casey putting their "hair" together.  Mostly we just thought that this would make a neat image but perhaps there is a deeper meaning behind this. Each of these girls has a different hair color that is reflective of their cultural backgrounds. The girls are all very different, as is their hair. By incorporating Aveeka's straight black hair, Laila's curly brown hair, and Casey's wavy golden hair, we have a pretty good representation of the make up of the larger world around us.

Art and Identity in Oakland on May 31, 2012

Today we went to oakland to utilize the vibrant university atmosphere for our "arts and sciences" theme. Although many of our pictures do not actually relate to the theme we had a great time exploring the many unique landscapes on PITT's campus.
